The story
Imvemnyama is the artistic persona of Sive Mqikela, a singer-songwriter from Komani in the Eastern Cape whose work is grounded in story, observation and the inner life of ordinary people. His name evokes the black sheep: a voice that refuses easy belonging and makes space for what is often missed, unheard or left in the dark.
Drawing from township idioms, Nguni oral traditions, jazz, protest music and literary discourse, Imvemnyama’s music gives everyday experience weight and texture. His debut EP, Emnyamandawo, introduces a distinct voice shaped by place, memory and unfiltered truth. This collection translates that spirit into wearable pieces.
